FALSE PROPHETS !
“But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.”-2 Peter 2:1-3
We’ve all heard the proverbial adage: “You wouldn’t know it if you saw it”, or, “You wouldn’t know one if it bit you on the nose”, which goes to show that sometimes we, as wise as we might think we are, can be the subject of Tom Foolery. We suppose, concerning the idea of being fooled or led astray, the game is ripest among religious contenders, or pretenders, than any other arena. We would expect children to think championship wrestling is the real thing, but when adults are led to believe that the flying tackles and the painful arm-twisting is real, we know of a surety that the adult mind can be led to believe most anything, even religious spacemen and prophets manning U.F.O.”S.
Peter was a real prophet. There is no question about that. Though some may question our own credentials, his are impeccable. So, for those of us who still believe that the old Bible that our grandparents found comfort in, the one that has been around for thousands of years, is what God wants His people to believe, let’s hear what Peter has to say about the false prophet.
1. They are “False Teachers”- A false teacher must use a false book or cast a shadow of doubt upon the original. Thus, the false prophet always has writing of his, or her, own that they place over and above the scriptures. They claim to have new or better light than did the apostles, special visions and revelations. They may even claim to have a bible that is over and above the one Christians have used for two-thousand years. Since they can not claim to have had revelation from God, they must claim to have had special visits from angels of light, or from some special source that they have dug up, which source, by the way, can never be produced. This the Christian must know: The cannon of scripture was closed with the writings of the apostles (Revelation 22:18,19). Jesus forewarned about their angel of light who was a fallen angel: “And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.”( 2 Cor. 11:14). So did Paul: “But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.” (Galatians 1:8). Only a fallen angel would do that! This teacher will always become the foremost leader, placing their words above the words of the apostles and writers of the scriptures. “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.”-Jesus Christ.

2. They “privily” bring in- This means that they do many things in private, things in secret. They have secret baptisms, secret rituals, secret chants and secret meetings. Jesus said, “Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.” (Matthew 24:26). Unless persecuted, the Christians have never done anything in private. Their preaching, their baptisms, their singing, all of their worship is public, hoping that visitors will be blessed as well. If it is private, you can be sure that someone is amiss. In 1978, 408 American citizens had committed suicide at a communal village they had built in the jungle in Northwest Guyana. The community had come to be known as “Jonestown.” The dead were all members of a group known as “The People’s Temple” which was led by the Reverend Jim Jones. It would soon be learned that 913 of the 1100 people believed to have been at “Jonestown” at the time, had died in a mass suicide. One of the most interesting observations that the soldiers, that came in to clean up the camp made was the fact that there was not one Bible found in the camp. They have given God’s word up for the words of their prophet. Peter knew what he was talking about. They brought upon themselves “swift destruction”. Other than a few business meetings, or the fact that the members of the particular body are the only ones with voting rites, nothing was ever done in secret by the infant Church. Any secret order or fraternity has been invented since then and if documents were examined Christ would be dethroned and Satan elevated in the writings. In private they will make their followers pledge their pocket books and their lives. They will make them go through rituals, such as cutting their own throats if they ever tell what is done by them in secret. They dress up in special garments. Is this Christianity? Which brings us to the next point.

3. They “deny the Lord”- This is the crux of it all: dethrone Jesus and elevate man. Their doctrines and writings make Jesus an angel, which is not God manifested in the flesh. An angel is a created being, just like Lucifer or Satan. Some make Jesus out to be Satan’s brother giving them equal power. or a mere man, a prophet equal, but not greater than their own. Some even teach that Jesus is Satan’s brother, making the immaculate and impeccable Jesus equal to the arch enemy of true Christianity. This would make two equal forces contending with one anther when we know that Jesus is King of Kings and Lord of Lords. This is the spirit of the antichrist that John spoke of, to deny that Jesus came in the flesh, that Jesus was God manifested in the flesh.
damnable heresies: From their own writings, the must dethrone the word of God and talk about “other gospels”, mistakes, ad infimitim. A careful perusal of their own will demonstrate that not only are their writing grammatically incorrect, but places and people they speak of never really existed!! The heresies are so numerous, concerning the deity of Christ and the sinfulness of man that we would need five papers to address them all.
4: And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: The false prophet makes special promises that appeal to the sinner. Covetousness appeals to us all. The false prophets promises special worlds to be had and ruled by his people, women and riches, carnal delights. To obtain all of this the member must do certain things: give his life or move up the ranks by degrees. Jesus warned against this as well. The greatest became the servant unlike the gentile kings. And etc.
